Everyone at one time or another has wondered what is all this hoopla about massage about? A lucky few decide to overcome their fear of the unknown and book their very first massage get it. So for the rest of you out there that are still massage virgins come along with me so we can help you jump off the cliff into the most addictive thing in your life but the most healthy thing you can do for yourself.
Step one is to decide why you might need a massage as a massage virgin. Most common first-time massage client is someone that has had an injury to a muscle and need work to relieve the pain. This can be anything from a knot, kink or a strained muscle, tendon or ligament. You may also be experiencing a lot of stress or depression. Massage can help this also so that you can relax and get a better nights sleep. Massage is also good for your body, in general, to help with circulation, metabolism and other pain. You may also just get a massage because you are wondering why people like it so much that is a perfectly good reason also.
Step two is to decide what type of setting you want to get a massage in for your first time. There are many types of places to get a massage. The most common is a massage salon that only offers massage. This will be quiet and center around making your experience special. You may also choose a spa setting that offers many different types of body treatments to make your whole day filled with relaxation. You can choose to hire a massage therapist that does outcalls to come to your home, office or hotel room to do a private massage for you. Massage therapist like myself also work from their homes and have single massage room set up to meet with one client at a time and by appointment only. The main key is to make sure your massage therapist is licensed to perform the massage for you and trained completely.
Step three is to call and step up an appointment. I recommend that you get an hour massage your first time to make sure you feel comfortable with the environment and the therapist. This way if you are not you can choose another setting for your next experience. If you feel uncomfortable you should cancel your appointment in a timely fashion. Being nervous is normal and nothing to be embarrassed about. All massage therapist are trained to help their clients relax at their first massage.
Step four is to be excited that you made the best decision of your life to get a massage. Relax and enjoy feeling amazing.
