There are many reasons a client gets a body wrap no matter their gender or age. There are a lot of big expectations out there for what a body wrap can do for you. There is some truth to each of them but they are not the miracle worker they are claimed to be. This does not mean there are no benefits in receiving a wrap. We will touch on how a body wrap works, benefits of a wrap and who should or shouldn’t receive a wrap in this blog.
Every spa does their body wraps a little different but they are all basically the same. The client chooses the type of wrap based on skin needs, smell or because they like the effects of the wrap. In my spa, I make each of my wraps from scratch to ensure the product is fresh for each client. Depending on the spa they may buy premade wraps or have a parent company that supplies their wrap materials ready to use. No matter the way they are all somewhat the same, other than a fresh made can be customized to fit a client needs easier. The treatment is then warmed to body temperature for the application. The client will lay on the table on their back with all clothing removed, covered by a bath sheet to keep them warm. The treatment material is applied to the front and back of the client in a circular motion, the client will have to sit up but does not turn over during this time. The client is then wrapped in a sheet, foil or plastic, thermal blanket and sheet with a warm towel on top. The table will also have a warmer in it. In my spa, I leave the head, neck, and feet out of the wrap to allow for face and foot treatments during the process. The client can choose to leave their arms outside the wrap if they feel too closed in during the wrap. After being wrapped up for 30 – 60 minutes the wrapping is removed and the client rinses the treatment material off with warm water and no soap. The client will dry off and return to the freshly made table to have a moisturizing cream rubbed into their skin to end the treatment. At the end of the wrap is a good time to receive a massage to fix any muscle issues while your muscles are nice and warmed up.
So, what is the use of going through all this, when I can just get the lotion put on me and call it a day at half the cost? Let think about a few benefits that come from a body wrap.
It is said that you lose weight with a body wrap. This is true to some degree in that you sweat out water weight during the wrap depending on how hot and how long you stay in the wrap. As far as fat it takes more than a body wrap to lose unwanted fat, sorry people.
How about cellulite lose? This again is true to some degree. You will see some loss of cellulite for a few days after the treatment but it will slowly return without repeated treatments. There is no set standard that says you can permanently lose cellulite with a wrap, but it can be reduced over time and repeated treatments but not completely removed with a body wrap.
Will it take toxins out of my body? Yes, it can remove toxins from your body as you sweat out water. Depending on what is in the wrap some things will draw out toxins like Epson salt, seaweed, clays, and coffee. You can talk with a therapist before booking your wrap so they can guide you on what products you should use to remove the toxins you think need removing from your body. It goes without saying that toxins need to be removed on regular bases.
Makes my skin look younger, softer and have more elasticity. This can happen by removing toxins, water weight and massaging the skin. The oils, salts, clays, seaweed, sugars, and essential oils that are used in a wrap do soften the skin giving the appearance of glowing with youth and make the skin feel more elastic. This only last a few days making necessary to have repeat treatments.
Who should not receive a wrap? Anyone that has a contagious skin condition, health conditions that recommend staying away from water loss or heat, open wounds or abrasions. If you have any type of question you should ask your doctor before booking a body wrap.
So if the effects of a body wrap are only for a few days. Why do I want to put the time and expense into a body wrap? I will tell you why from experience of receiving them over the last several years. They are very relaxing and allow me to slow down and let the outside worries leave me alone for a couple hours. It makes my skin feel amazing like I am a teenager again for a few days. That is totally worth it, in my option. If I lose weight or cellulite for a while I call that a win-win. I realize that true loss of weight or cellulite comes from hard work not relaxing on a warm table but hey I will take what I can get. So, book your body wrap as soon as you can so you too can say I am all wrapped and I loved it!
