Since my move back to the family ranch I have put a lot of thought into what is self-care and is it really necessary? The resounding answer is hell yes you need to do self-care but it is different for each person and often for different situations in life. Yes, people often hide behind the label of self-care to do what they want to do and avoid responsibility. This does not make self-care a bad thing just a thing that should be used properly and not abused.
So why do we need self-care? Our lives to are filled with stress that directly can lead to health, mental and physical issues. Our world today is filled with things on the news of people acting out their rage on the those around them or in the world due to stress or not feeling like they are getting heard. Some of the health issues are insomnia, migraines, muscle pain, stomach pain, and many others. Some of the mental issues are forgetfulness, irritability, anger, self-pity and many others. Some of the physical issues are weight gain. restlessness, and many others. Many of these can be solved simply by practicing self-care on a regular base while others require you to add on medical care also.
What can self-care do for your health if you practice the use of self-care? Many people experience decreased depression and anxiety, lower blood pressure, increased immunity. Without self-care, the mental issues of fear, anxiety and stress create a circle that is very hard to break.
